How to find your color palette.

4/25/2024

Hello beautiful people and welcome back to this month's blog post!!! It is April and we are talking colors.

Let’s dive into a trend that's taking social media by storm: color analysis and discovering your personal color palette. Understanding which colors complement you best is the perfect secret weapon to always looking effortlessly put together even in the most simple attire. You could be wearing jeans and a tee shirt but if the colors you’ve picked suit you then you’ll definitely have something about you that people just can’t put their fingers on, a “ je ne sais quoi” if you will.

Although there’s no exact science to it and it can be hard to determine what category you fall in, I am going to give a few tips and tricks that you can always reference when you need little guidance.

First thing first in order to determine your color palette, you are going to start by identifying your skin undertones. Cool undertones tend to exhibit hints of pink, blue, or purple, whereas warm undertones tend to showcase peach, yellow, or golden hues. If you're still not sure where you land here’s another little trick, examine the veins on your wrist; blue veins often signal cool undertones, while green veins suggest closer to warm undertones.

Now if you have a deeper/darker skin tone like me it can be challenging to use the vein trick. The third option is to physically get some gold and silver jewelry and put it on! Pay attention to how certain pieces look against your skin—gold typically flatters warm undertones, while silver complements cool undertones. If both metals seem to complement your complexion without one overpowering the other, it may suggests a neutral undertone.

Now that we’ve determined how to find your undertone lets get into what colors fit into each category the best:

  • For those with warm undertones, earthy tones like terracotta, olive green, and mustard yellow can enhance the warmth of their complexion, while rich jewel tones such as deep reds, oranges, and warm browns can add depth and vibrancy. For a more calming look opt for shades of blue, such as teal, turquoise, and azure, it will bring out the warmth in your skin while still adding depth to your overall look.

  • Cool undertones, on the other hand, can embrace the crispness of colors like navy blue, emerald green, and royal purple, which complement the coolness in their skin. Icy shades like sky blues and pastel pinks can create a refreshing marriage for cool undertones.

  • Now although it is rare I still have to make an honorable mention to those who have been blessed with a neutral undertone. If you have a neutral undertone, you're fortunate to have the flexibility to wear a wide range of colors that complement your complexion. Neutrals such as beige, taupe, and gray serve as versatile foundations for your wardrobe, effortlessly flattering your skin tone. Earthy tones like olive green and camel also harmonize beautifully with neutral undertones, offering a sophisticated yet well put together aesthetic. For a more vibrant look, jewel tones like sapphire blue, emerald green, and amethyst purple can add a pop of color that complements your balanced undertone.

Ultimately, whether warm, cool, or neutral the key is to experiment with various shades to find what resonates best with your unique undertone and personal style.

And always remember, fashion fades, but style is eternal.
